To All My Spanish Students:
You are invited to join me at the Greater St. Louis Hispanic Festival this weekend and take advantage of major Extra Credit.
Attendance is completely optional, if you are able to go please take a picture of you and your family in front of a booth, or stage with dancers, or a sign or something that shows me you were there. You can email me your pic and I will try to include it in our Homelink page for Spanish class. That pic is worth 20 extra credit points!!!

National Hispanic Heritage Month Sept 16 - Oct 16. Did you know this is celebrated across the country, and here in St. Loiuis. Pedro Joseph Piernas, (born in Spain) was Lieutenant governor of Illinois and commander of St. Louis in the 1770s. Missouri was under Spanish or French rule during the 1700s. So even our city and state has Hispanic heritage. St. Louis has celebrated a festival annually since the days of Gov. Piernas.
The Steen family is going to join the Musicks on Friday afternoon. If you are there look, for us.

Hispanic Festival, Inc. will be turning up the heat for the Greater St. Louis Hispanic Festival at Soulard Park near 7th Street and Lafayette next to the Soulard Market on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – (DATE). This is the largest Hispanic celebration in the St. Louis area.
The annual event will feature Hispanic Folkloric dancers, over 50 booths and the Los Ninos Kids Corner with Dora the Explorer & Diego.
Take in the sizzling sounds of Hispanic music with live Latino bands playing a variety of music on the premier concert stage including salsa, merengue, latin rock, percussion, cumbia and bachata: Son Montuno Salsa Band, Los Amancay South American Band, Making Movies Latin Rock, Social Club Cuban Band, Valencia Musical and Paradize Mexican Band from Topeka, Kansas.
Traditional folkloric dancers from Mexico, Brazil and Colombia will be performing as well as offering dances lessons in salsa and bachata.
Our Cultural Village will be host to a wide variety of foods and beverages from Latin & South America including Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Belize, and more.
An addition to this great event is the Low Rider Car Cruise on Sunday, (DATE). Other attractions include folk arts & crafts, information booths from several cultural organizations, inflatable rides, petting zoo, salsa dance lessons and a mechanical bull.
One of the Fair’s purposes is to celebrate the common heritage of Hispanic nations. The funds raised are used to fund scholarships distributed to college-bound students as well as under-privileged children and their families.
We invite the entire St. Louis community, both Hispanic and non-Hispanic, to come and share in this festive weekend celebration of fun and fiesta for the whole family.
Area parking is available or fair-goers may ride the Busch Stadium stop.
Admission is free.
