World Folk Art - Instructor Dolores Jensen (Wednesday & Thursday)
Day: Wednesday @ Canaan Time: 12:30pm-2:00pm or Thursday 2pm - 3:30pm Length of Class: 90 minutes Grades: 5th - 8th (9th-12th with Instructor Permission) Prerequisite: None Tuition: $170 / semester; $340 Full Course Min: 5 Max: 14
We will work our way through The Renaissance and Reformation, learning about art in those times and areas of the world. This class will be part lecture and part creating art. We will be exploring a variety of art mediums including: drawing, watercolor paint and watercolor pencil, colored pencil, acrylic paint, chalk pastel, collage. I may ask you to bring some supplies from home such as colored paper, magazine pages, glue sticks.
My teaching method is mainly hands on, spending some one-on-one with each student during each class session. I will introduce what we will spend our time for that class, demonstrate and then quickly get the students working on their projects. Often more teaching is done to the group as I notice where students are struggling. I work my way around the room, helping each student individually. Since art skill is not based upon age, but ability and experience, my classes are open to grades 6-12. Students wanting high school credit should inform me prior to classes starting. I will assign homework to all students; credit seeking students must complete home work in order to receive credit. I urge my students to practice as much as they are able.
If you have a student who is interested in my classes but have maybe already had these classes or you feel they may be more advanced than the class description implies, please contact me to discuss how/if the class can be made to accommodate them. I always work with students at their skill level, even a student who has had this material can be assigned more challenging projects that are still within the general scope of the class.
